Who We Are

Mr. George Charles III

Chairperson/CEO

George W. Charles III was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Tina Beatty and George Charles Jr., and is a PROUD graduate of North Carolina A&T where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies in 2015. George completed his Master of Arts degree in Psychology from Grand Canyon University in March 2020 and is currently pursuing a PHD in Clinical Psychology program where he plans to open his own practice. George is a member of the ICE COLD Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. George is the chairperson & leader of HBCU Legacy Tour, LLC. George has been blessed to have taken over that 200 students to different HBCUs across the country & has seen at least 70% of seniors go on to attend HBCUs in the 4 years he’s led the tours. George is an entrepreneur with his own life coaching program, works full time as a consultant, mentor, motivational speaker, youth advocate, event planner, writer, Chairman/President of a nonprofit, and full-time PhD student. George’s greatest accomplishment is none of his titles but being able to pour into lives and honoring the legacy of his father

Ms. Briana Gholston

Co-chair

Briana Gholston more affectionately known as “Ms. Bree” is a unique talent. Grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. Briana knew from an early age she wanted to leave an impact on next generation. While in high school she worked as a mentor to younger children through her church. She took her talent to the New Mexico where she received a degree in Exercise Science while playing college basketball. Ms. Gholston continue her education by earning a master’s degree from Concordia University of Irvine. Ms. Gholston is currently working on her PhD from Clark Atlanta. Briana has impacted many students through her coaching, teaching, and mentoring. Ms. Gholston is committed to touching as many on students and seeing them be successful in college and beyond.

Chaperone Leadership Team

Dr. Robert Crosby

Dr. Crosby was born & raised in Shreveport, LA and attended Southern University A&M College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. After graduating he immediately enrolled into the graduate program & graduated from University of Florida, where he earned his doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering with a focus in Semiconductors. Currently Dr. Crosby serves on the executive board of the Network of Intel African Americans (NIA) with a focus on STEM & external research. Dr. Crosby is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Dr. Crosby is a proud husband with two remarkable children. Dr. Crosby has a huge passion for HBCUs and their importance to his success.

John Prothro

Mr. Prothro, has been apart of the HBCU Tour since 2019. Mr. Prothro is a teacher by trade since 1985, working with all grades 3rd-12th. Mr. Prothro currently teaches AP World History at Perry High School (Chandler, AZ) and is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Mr. Prothro is a thankful and happy husband for 27 years and father of 3.

Rabeia McCray

Rabia McCray is a professional in the field of Social Services and Mental Health. She is the founder of an outpatient clinic that offers comprehensive mental health services. She has volunteered as a chaperone with the HBCU Tour since 2019 and is a member of the Chaperone Leadership team. Mrs. McCray is a graduate of Northern Arizona University, and enjoys spending her free time cooking, traveling & with her family.

Chussette Oden

Chussette Oden is a seasoned Behavioral Health professional as well as a Director for a Non-Profit organization. Chussette participates as an Executive Board member and Steering Committee member for two Arizona Non-Profit agencies. Chussette's passion is advocacy and her hobbies include traveling, reading, and volunteering. Chussette is the proud grandmother of 5.
